This group, equipment-free version of Gyrotonic® movement invigorates and re-educates the body to move with fluidity, relaxation and power. The work, often referred to as yoga in motion, is ideal for the man, woman, senior, athlete or dancer, seeking health, stamina, strength and flexibility.
Students should come being prepared to move and breathe rhythmically. While the exercises flow one right into the other, the student must remain conscious of listening to what the body is telling you it needs. By rhythmically moving the body with heightened awareness, you will leave feeling light yet grounded, stronger in your body and looser in your joints.
Inside the main room at Upward Spiral Studio
The first part of the class takes place seated on a stool. The exercises are fluid and organic, working through the spine with waves, spirals, arches, curls and rocking movements. The movements release the arms, shoulders and chest, and mobilize the hips and knees. The corresponding breathing patterns in every movement stimulate the nervous system, open up the energy pathways and oxygenate the blood.
The second half of the class takes place on an exercise mat. Exercises focus on opening up the hips, low back, upper back, and strengthening core muscle groups as well.
